Attachments and embeds
Drop a file into the body and it is attached. Outside documents and maps go in as embed blocks.
Uploading files
- Drag and drop a file into the body, paste it, or pick it from the /이미지 (image) or /파일 (file) block.
- Images, video and audio show in the body directly; other files show their name and a download link.
- Open an image full screen with View large (크게 보기) at its top right or a double click (one click on a page you can only read). Add a caption from Caption (캡션) in the handle (⋮⋮) menu, or from Edit caption (캡션 수정) in the toolbar that a click on the image brings up.
- Image, video, audio and file blocks are downloaded with Download (다운로드) in the handle (⋮⋮) menu, swapped for another file with Replace (바꾸기) and opened in a new tab with Open original (원본 열기). For an image, Alt text (대체 텍스트) in the same menu holds the description a screen reader reads out.
- An image's Crop (자르기) sets the part to keep by dragging a frame. The file stays as it is and only what shows changes; Whole image (원래대로) undoes it. Add link (링크 추가) puts a link button on the image's top left, and on a page you can only read a click on the image opens the address.
- Image blocks take formats such as PNG, JPG, GIF and WebP, video blocks MP4 and WebM, and audio blocks MP3, WAV, M4A and OGG. A file block takes any type. The upload panel also names each block's formats and size limit.
- One file may be up to 10 MiB. Keep larger files in Google Drive and link them with a Drive file block.
Attachments belong to the page. Share the page and its attachments open with it; move the page to the trash and they go with it.
An image from an address
Give an image block an address (https://…) and it shows the picture at that address without uploading a file. If the original disappears, so does the picture.
A video from an address
Give a video block a YouTube or Vimeo address and it goes in as a link block with that service's player, and a notice says so. A YouTube or Vimeo address already in a video block shows as the player too, and plays on a published site. An address that is no video file shows This address cannot be played (재생할 수 없는 주소입니다) with an Open original (원본 열기) link.
Image slideshow
Several pictures in one block, paged through sideways, so a page with many drafts or screenshots does not grow tall.
- /이미지 슬라이드 (image slideshow) makes an empty slideshow; drop pictures on it or use Add images (이미지 추가) to put in several at once. A slideshow holds up to 50.
- Image blocks already on the page are gathered with Into a slideshow (이미지 슬라이드로) in the block handle menu. The images that follow directly below come along.
- Move through the slides with the ◀ ▶ buttons at the picture's sides, the arrow keys or a swipe; the dots or
3/7under the picture say where you are. View large (크게 보기) at the picture's top right, or a double click on it, opens it full screen, where you can page through them too. - Move this image forward · back (이 이미지 앞으로·뒤로) under the slideshow reorders; Remove this image (이 이미지 빼기) takes one out. Each slide's caption is the image block's own caption.
- Fit / Fill (화면에 맞춤 / 채우기) decides how a picture sits on the stage, and the bar underneath drags the height.
- Download N uploaded images (올린 이미지 N개 내려받기) hands out the pictures uploaded to this page as one zip. Pictures placed by address are left out.
- Ungroup slideshow (슬라이드 해제) turns it back into image blocks.
Pictures in a database table's Files (파일) property show as small thumbnails in the cell; click one to page through that cell's pictures at full size. A picture keeps its shape, never cropped, fitted to the cell's width and the size's limit, and a small picture stays its own size so the row grows no taller than it needs. In the table view settings each property gets a picture size (small · medium · large) and an alignment, or File names only (파일 이름만) to turn thumbnails off for a property that holds documents, and colour rules (색 규칙) paint a background or the letters of rows or cells that meet a condition.
Embeds
| Block | What it takes |
|---|---|
| A PDF address. A PDF uploaded to ESTnote is paged inside the page; a PDF on another site opens in a new window with Open original. In the Android app even a PDF uploaded to ESTnote opens at its source | |
| Google Maps | A map address or a place |
| Google Drive | A Drive document, sheet or file: paste an address or pick a file |
| GitHub | A preview of a repository, issue or PR link |
| HTML | An HTML snippet you wrote |
| Markdown | Markdown source as it is |
A PDF, Google Maps, Google Drive or GitHub block starts with an address field, which goes away once it has an address. To change the address later, choose Change URL in the block's handle (⋮⋮) menu.
In exports and published sites an embed block stays as its source or a link.
A Google Drive file keeps Drive's own permissions. Sharing the page does not share the file. Details are in Google Drive integration.
Pasting an address
Paste one address (https://…) and it goes in as a link, with a menu under it asking what to make of it. Choose with the up and down arrows and Enter, or click an item.
- Keep link (링크 유지): it stays a link. Pressing Esc, clicking elsewhere or simply writing on keeps it a link too.
- Bookmark (북마크): it becomes a link block showing the site's name and the address.
- Embed (임베드): a YouTube or Vimeo video becomes its player, a Google Drive address a Drive file block, a Google Maps address the map, a GitHub address the GitHub preview, and an address ending in
.pdfa PDF block. It is offered only for such addresses. - Mention (멘션): an address of a page in this app (as Copy link (링크 복사) in the page menu copies it) that you can open becomes a page mention.
A line that holds nothing but the address becomes the block, and you write on in a new line under it. An address pasted inside a sentence is taken out of the sentence, and the block goes right under that line. A table cell cannot hold a block, so it offers no bookmark or embed. No menu appears inside a code block or when several lines are pasted. A Google Drive address pasted on an empty line becomes a Drive file block at once, with no menu.
Select some text and paste an address, and the text is linked to it. If the selected text is itself an address, the new address replaces it.
The toolbar that appears when you hover a link in the body also has Turn into bookmark (북마크로 바꾸기) and, for an address that can be embedded, Turn into embed (임베드로 바꾸기). A link whose text is not an address keeps its words in the sentence, and they become the bookmark's title.
Page icon and cover
The icon is one emoji, picked under Icon (아이콘) in Page appearance (페이지 표시). A chosen icon shows above the title; clicking it changes it or, with Remove (제거), takes it away. A page without an icon has none above its title; the sidebar and lists show the default icon. The cover is set under Cover (커버) in Page appearance (페이지 표시) as a colour (8 of them), an uploaded image or an image address. An image address starts with http or https and is up to 2,000 characters; an address whose picture does not load is saved after a warning, and the page shows a plain band instead of the image. The icon picker holds every emoji by category; the field at its top searches them by English name (for example rocket), or the common ones by Korean name, or takes an emoji typed in. The icon shows in the sidebar and in mentions too.
