MCP integration

Connect an agent app to an ESTnote Space to read and write pages and databases.

MCP (Model Context Protocol) lets an agent app search and read ESTnote pages, query databases and write documents. The app acts within the ESTnote permissions of the person who connected it.

Connect an app

  1. Open Space settings → Agents (에이전트) in the Space you want to connect.
  2. A Space owner or admin turns on Allow agent connection (MCP) (에이전트 연결(MCP) 허용). Leave Allow agents to write (에이전트의 쓰기 허용) off for read-only use; enable it when creation, editing or comments are needed.
  3. Copy the Connection address (연결 주소) into the agent app's connector or MCP server settings. If asked for a transport, choose Streamable HTTP.
  4. Apps supporting login open ESTnote's sign-in and consent screens. Sign in with the intended account, review the Space and permissions, and approve. Write permissions start off on the consent screen.
  5. Check Connected apps (연결된 앱) in ESTnote, then ask the app to search for or read a page to verify the connection.

Expand the connection guides in Space settings → Agents for app-specific steps. Login-based connections do not require pasting an API token.

Capabilities and permissions

OperationExamples
ReadSearch pages, list and read pages, inspect database structure and query entries
WriteCreate pages and database entries, edit content, titles and properties, add comments
Move to TrashMove a page made by mistake or a draft to Trash with its sub-pages. Nothing is deleted for good

Writing requires all three: writes enabled for the Space, write scopes approved for the connection, and the connecting user's editing permission on the page. Connecting does not expose other people's private pages or pages you cannot access. Before an agent edits a page body, ESTnote automatically saves a version you can restore. Moving to Trash works only when the connecting user may move that page to Trash, and the page is restored from Trash (휴지통) in ESTnote. An agent has no way to delete a page permanently.

When moving earlier team documents into a database, an agent can give each new entry its original writer and date written. They become the entry's Created by and Created time. The writer is a member of this Space other than a guest, named by email or by name; the date cannot be later than now, and a time without a time zone is read as Korea time. Since whoever made an entry may also move it or put it in Trash, only an agent connected by a Space owner or admin may give them.

Try “Find and summarize the launch plan in this Space” to check reading. With writing enabled, you can ask “Create a meeting notes page under this project.”

Apps using API tokens

For apps without login support, create a token under Account settings → API tokens and webhooks (API 토큰과 웹훅). Select the intended Space and required scopes, then enter it in the app's authentication settings. MCP access must also be enabled for the Space.

A token acts with its creator's permissions. Do not put it in an authentication header shared across an organization. Revoke token connections under Account settings → API tokens and webhooks, rather than under Connected apps. See the API reference for public API usage.

Review activity and disconnect

  • In Space settings → Agents → Agent activity (에이전트 활동), review the requested tools and their results. Records are kept for 90 days; the content read or written is not recorded in the activity log.
  • When a body change has a restore point, select Restore from version history (버전 기록에서 되돌리기) to inspect it.
  • Revoke a connection under Connected apps. Owners and admins can select View entire Space (Space 전체 보기) to manage connections across that Space.
  • Turning off Allow agent connection (MCP) immediately stops existing connections. Turning off only Allow agents to write preserves reading and disables the creation, editing, comment and move-to-Trash tools.

Troubleshooting

  • Cannot connect: Check that MCP is enabled and that the connection address was copied correctly. Confirm the app supports the server's transport and authentication method.
  • Page missing from search: Check the account and Space you connected, and whether you can open the page directly in ESTnote.
  • Reads work but writes fail: Check the Space's write setting, the connection's approved scopes and your editing permissions on the page. Reconnect with the required write scopes if you originally approved read-only access.
  • Request failed: Check the result under Agent activity. Retry later for rate limits; sign in and connect again if the connection was revoked.
